LIZ MAGIC LASER: I FEEL YOUR PAIN POSTER
2012
Silkscreen
Edition of 100, 61 x 91 cm / 24 x 36 inches

For Performa 11, Liz Magic Laser presented a new mixed-media performance, I Feel Your Pain, that restages America’s recent political contests as romantic drama. Staged in a movie theater, I Feel Your Pain takes place simultaneously in the midst of the audience and on the cinema’s screen. Eight actors perform a sequence of scenes tracing the progression of a relationship using dialogues adapted from political interviews with figures such as Glenn Beck, Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin, Barack Obama, and John Boehner.

As the performance was partly sponsored by the School of Visual Arts' Visual & Critical Studies Department, for which I regularly designed posters, I had designed a poster taking elements from Shepard Fairey's Obama 'HOPE' poster and Russian Constructivism. Upon seeing that design, Laser approached me to design a more complex limited edition poster based on her work. This was then silkscreened by Shannon Broder.
